Question: Where in Central Texas can you travel on a country road that is rumored to have been haunted by a “hairy man” since the 1800s?

Answer: Round Rock, along Hairy Man Road. According to local legend, a young boy was separated from his family as they tried to escape the rising floodwaters from a nearby creek. He learned to survive in the woods and became a hermit, terrorizing all who approached his domain. His fame grew until he was trampled to death by a speeding stagecoach.

In years past, people sought an encounter with the Hairy Man by driving along the road named after him with their lights off. Today, the Hairy Man Festival is held every year in the fall, featuring a 5K run, live music, and the Hairiest Man contest.
