Question: Who was the first Texan to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court?

Answer: Thomas Campbell Clark. Born in Dallas in 1899, he attended the University of Texas and worked for several years as the civil district attorney for Dallas County. In 1937, he became an assistant to the U.S. attorney general, in which role he coordinated the relocation and incarceration of American citizens of Japanese ancestry. In 1945, he was appointed attorney general under President Truman. Four years later, he joined the Supreme Court, serving 18 years in that role.
