Question: What Texas town was allegedly named after a sign damaged in a tornado?

Answer: Andice, an unincorporated community of about 25 people in Williamson County. According to local legend, the town’s general store had posted a sign reading “beer and ice.” When an intense storm came through the area, the sign’s first word was ripped off, providing inspiration for the town’s name.

The real story, however, is that the the U.S. Postal Service misread an application for the town’s post office, which a local reverend and his wife intended to name after their son, Audice. Prior to this incident in 1899, Andice was called Stapp and Berry’s Creek.
