Question: What podcast ends every episode with its host saying “Remember Zelmo Beaty”?

Answer: Slate‘s sports podcast “Hang Up and Listen.” The tradition began in 2011, when the hosts interviewed NBA journeyman Zaid Abdul-Aziz about a 1968 Sports Illustrated series on black athletes. Abdul-Aziz, born Donald Smith, lamented how many modern players were ignorant of great players in the past. He mentioned an appearance by Shaquille O’Neal on The Late Show with David Letterman in which O’Neal confessed he didn’t know who Zelmo Beaty was. In a 2013 obituary for Beaty, Slate called him the publication’s “favorite basketball player.”
