Question: Texas has more counties than any other state. How many does it have?

Answer: 254. Texas has nearly 100 more counties than Georgia, which ranks second in the nation at 159. Due its large size, Texas had to create so many counties to accommodate residents’ ability to travel to and from their local courthouse on horseback in a single day. Harris County is Texas’ largest by population with over 4 million people, while Loving County is the smallest at around 100–130 people.
