Texas Cities Among Fastest-Growing in U.S.
Seven of the fifteen fastest-growing cities in the U.S. are in Texas, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The analysis examined cities with populations of at least 20,000 during the period between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2024.
Leading the way is Princeton in Collin County, growing from 28,336 to 37,019 residents—a rate of 30.6%. Collin County is home to three other fast-growing cities: Celina (No. 4 at 18.2%, pop. 51,661), Anna (No. 5 at 14.6%, pop. 31,986), and Melissa (No. 11 at 10%, pop. 26,194).
Fulshear in Fort Bend County was No. 2, growing at a rate of 26.9% to increase its population to 54,629. Rockwall County’s Fate (No. 8) grew its population to 27,467 at a rate of 11.4%, and Hutto in Williamson County (No. 13) grew its population to 42,661 at a rate of 9.4%.
“It’s affordability. That’s really the driving factor,” said Princeton Mayor Eugene Escobar. Princeton has temporarily paused new residential development to avoid putting too much strain on local infrastructure, but Escobar estimates there are plans to build 10,000 new homes when the moratorium is lifted.
New Rules for Galveston’s Jeep Weekend
Thousands of people are expected to visit Galveston over the next few days for Jeep Weekend. Officials have laid down some new rules in an effort to prevent the unruly behavior and violence that have plagued the annual event in years past.
Authorities arrested at least a hundred people in Galveston County each of the past three years, and one person was killed in a shooting last year.
On some roads—including the beach—traffic is restricted to one direction, and no parking or stopping is allowed. Other rules include a ban on mass gatherings, bonfires, and golf carts or ATVs on the beach.
Over 400 officers from 14 agencies are expected to patrol the event. “You need to follow our rules, and you need to obey the law. And if you choose not to, we will find a place for you in our Galveston County jail,” said Sheriff Jimmy Fullen.
UTA Launching Women’s Flag Football
UT Arlington will launch a women’s flag football varsity program in 2027, making it the fifth NCAA Division I university in the country—and the first in Texas—to do so. UTA President Jennifer Cowley made the announcement at a community event yesterday afternoon.
More than 500,000 girls between the ages of 6 and 17 in the U.S. are estimated to play flag football, and about 65 colleges in the country have varsity or club programs, including Concordia University Texas and Texas Wesleyan. Women’s flag football will be a sport at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Once a coaching staff is hired, players could be signed to the program as soon as this fall. Games will be played in the 12,000-seat Maverick Stadium.
UTA’s football program was shuttered in 1985 due to rising costs and poorly attended games. Cowley indicated there are no immediate plans to resume men’s football at the university.

New Research: Common Brushing Habit Could Be Damaging Your Teeth
A recent study from Kyoto University has revealed a surprising threat to your oral health: a toxic biofilm known as “Dental Rust.”
This bacteria hides deep in the gum line and enamel cracks—and routine brushing may actually push it in further, accelerating tooth decay and gum damage.
Left untreated, it may lead to serious infections.
