Good Morning! On this day in 1972, Texas voters approved the Texas Equal Rights Amendment, granting the same legal rights to men and women in the state constitution. The amendment provided the basis for several new state laws, including one that ended sex-based discrimination in processing loan and credit applications.

Flight Cuts Ordered at Four Texas Airports
Four Texas airports are affected by mandatory flight reductions ordered by the FAA in 40 high-volume areas nationwide: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas Love Field, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and William P. Hobby Airport.
In response to the ongoing government shutdown, the FAA has directed U.S. carriers to reduce flights by 4% starting today and increase the cuts by 1% per day until a 10% reduction is achieved by next week.
“I’m not aware in my 35-year history in the aviation market where we’ve had a situation where we’re taking these kinds of measures,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said Wednesday. “We’re in new territory in terms of government shutdowns.”
Texans planning to travel in the near future should monitor their flight status and expect delays at the airport. Most airlines are offering refunds or waiving fees to reschedule travel if customers’ flights are canceled.
Cowboys Player’s Death Mourned
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland died yesterday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase in Frisco. Kneeland, 24, was the team’s second-round pick in last year’s draft and had scored his first career touchdown in Monday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, state troopers tried to pull Kneeland over for a traffic violation on the Dallas North Tollway, but he refused to stop. Later, police found his damaged vehicle abandoned and located the deceased Kneeland nearby using search dogs and drones.
Meanwhile, Kneeland’s girlfriend requested a welfare check at his Plano residence, informing authorities he was armed, had a history of mental illness, and might “end it all.”
In a statement, the Cowboys remembered Kneeland as a “beloved teammate.” His former coach at Western Michigan described him as “a remarkable young man who meant so much to our program and to me personally.” Kneeland’s great uncle called him a “gentle giant” and an “outstanding young man.”
Kneeland’s mother passed away shortly before he was drafted. In two seasons with the Cowboys, he recorded 26 tackles and one sack over 18 games.
