Article Icon 1Texas Politicians On Iran Bombing

Texas politicians have weighed in on President Trump’s decision to hit Iranian nuclear sites with cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs over the weekend, with Republicans generally in favor and Democrats opposed to the strike.

I stand with Donald Trump and the United States of America,” said Gov. Greg Abbott on social media. He shared that he elevated the readiness level for the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas National Guard and has ordered increased patrols of high-risk locations.

Sen. John Cornyn characterized the bombing as “the courageous and correct decision,” while Sen. Ted Cruz praised those involved in the “successful and critical operation.” Attorney General Ken Paxton said he is “proud to stand with President Trump.”

U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) called the attack an “unconstitutional action entangling us in conflict,” and U.S. Rep. Julián Castro (D-San Antonio) said the president “stupidly, needlessly and dangerously bombed Iran under false pretenses.”

Article Icon 1Court Blocks Funding for Abortion Travel

A Texas appeals court temporarily blocked the implementation of a San Antonio program to provide taxpayer funds to organizations that pay the travel expenses for women seeking out-of-state abortions.

Attorney General Ken Paxton sued San Antonio in April after the city council allocated $100,000 to its Reproductive Justice Fund for “downstream services.” Paxton argued distribution of the funding would violate the state constitution’s prohibition on public gifts.

A district court dismissed the case because no funds had been distributed, but the Fifteenth Court of Appeals disagreed, saying in its ruling that “the threat of harm is more than conjectural, hypothetical, or remote.” The order will remain in effect until the case is resolved.

Under absolutely no circumstances should any Texas city be funding out-of-state abortion travel, and I will continue to work tirelessly to end this cruel, unlawful, and morally bankrupt program,” Paxton said in a news release.

Article Icon 1Twins Find Lost Class Rings in Lake Travis

An Aggie and a Longhorn were recently reunited with their lost class rings thanks to the efforts of twins Zane and Ella Gates, who found them at the bottom of Lake Travis during a certified scuba dive.

Ella, who attends Texas A&M, found the Aggie ring while Zane, a student at UT, found the Longhorn ring. Through a little detective work, the twins tracked down the rings’ owners, David Valdez and Mia Fuentes.

Valdez lost his Texas A&M ring during a party barge trip in 2023, and Fuentes lost her Texas ring during one in 2024. “This is absolutely insane,” said Mia.

Robert Weiss, the owner of Lake Travis Scuba, has recovered a bucket of lost items from the lake, including 32 Apple Watches. “The party barges that come out, we call them vending machines,” he said.
