Article Icon 1Trump, Musk Feud Could Impact Texas

The fallout from this week’s public feud between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk could potentially impact Texas. The president has threatened to cut contracts between the federal government and Musk’s companies.

Musk-owned Tesla, SpaceX, and the Boring Company, all based in Texas, have significant contracts or relationships with federal agencies, creating huge economic implications for the state should the president follow through.

The threat, made via Truth Social on Thursday, drew a quick response from Musk on X in which he claimed that Trump “is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.”

White House officials indicated on Friday that Trump is not interested in speaking with Musk. “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem, the poor guy’s got a problem,” the president said.

Article Icon 1Cornyn Dismisses Early Polling Numbers

Texas Sen. John Cornyn is responding to early polling in the race to keep his U.S. Senate seat, indicating he still believes he’ll win the election.

The Cornyn camp says the polls are biased and that it’s a “silly season” for polling, but experts suggest Cornyn may need to make a move quickly to cut into Paxton’s lead.

As reported Tuesday, Cornyn is at a significant deficit to challenger Ken Paxton, Texas’ attorney general, in early polls for the U.S. Senate seat, down as much as 22 points.

Cornyn’s strategy may involve taking aim at Paxton’s character, with campaign officials claiming that once voters “fully understand Ken Paxton’s record of ethical failures, mismanagement and corruption, we will win this primary.”

Article Icon 1Dallas Stars Fire Head Coach DeBoer

The Dallas Stars announced Friday that they are parting ways with head coach Pete DeBoer after just three seasons. In each of those seasons, the Stars reached and then lost the Western Conference Finals.

The move comes eight days after the Stars lost to the Edmonton Oilers 6-3, ending the series in five games.

DeBoer pulled starting goalkeeper Jake Oettinger after the Stars quickly found themselves at a two-goal deficit in the matchup. Following the loss, DeBoer said of Oettinger, “The reality is, if you go back to last year’s playoffs, he’s lost six of seven games to Edmonton.”

Analysts have suggested that questions about DeBoer’s relationship with the star goalkeeper may have contributed to the Stars’ decision to fire the coach, despite three straight years in the NHL’s final four.
