Article Icon 1Texas Braces for High Winds, Cold Front

Texas is bracing for high winds late this weekend as the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Sunday.

Winds are expected to peak on Sunday evening and draw a frigid cold front after them, reversing temperatures across the state from the 80s to freezing in some cases.

Some areas might see winds up to 55 miles per hour. Combined with a critically-dry 10% humidity level, even small grass fires can send embers flying long distances.

San Antonio and Austin are in the path of the wind event, which is expected to dissipate by late Sunday night.

The Texas Democratic Party is looking for a way to remove Kelly Hall from their State House ballot after the Round Rock resident won a primary he didn’t know he was in.

Hall’s energies have been focused on the mayoral election in Round Rock, where he faces incumbent Craig Morgan. He said he paid a $750 fee to enter the Democratic primary for House District 19 but invested nothing else in the campaign and mistakenly thought he had withdrawn by the deadline.

Having been informed that “everything was taken care of,” Hall was surprised to receive a notification that he had won the Democratic primary for Texas House District 19. “I just thought that was pretty weird,” he said.

Democrats are arguing that Hall can’t be on the November ballot because he’s running for another office, while the Secretary of State’s office has said none of the legal conditions for replacing a primary winner apply to Hall.

Texas figured prominently in the latest rendition of Forbes World’s Billionaires List, with resident Elon Musk retaining the title of richest in the world after adding nearly $500 billion to his net worth since last year.

At $839 billion in net worth, Musk is a shocking $582 billion ahead of second on the list in Google co-founder Larry Page.

Fort Worth Walmart heiress Alice Walton also retained her status as world’s richest woman, while Kinder Morgan chairman Richard Kinder became Houston’s wealthiest resident at $13 billion.

Five Texans were newcomers to the billionaires list, including Thomas Dundon, majority stakeholder of the United Pickleball Association. Houston native Beyoncé Knowles-Carter also joined the list for the first time.
