Good Morning! On this day in 1918, J. Marvin Leonard, known as “Mr. Marvin,” opened his first department store in Fort Worth. His brother Obadiah, known as “Mr. Obie,” joined him the next year to form Leonard Brothers, which thrived for many years on a business model encapsulated in its slogan, “More merchandise for less money.” The chain was sold to the Tandy Corporation in 1967 and to Dillard’s in 1974.

The couple purchased the 1940s home in 2021 with plans to relocate from California to Texas full-time, then listed it for $26.5 million in May.
The 1.24-acre Tarrytown property includes a five-bedroom main house, a two-bedroom guest house, and a garage with a screening room.
Listing agent Eric Moreland told The Wall Street Journal the couple’s business interests expanded in New York, making it impractical to move to Texas now, though they still hope to live in Austin eventually.
