Article Icon 1Texas Jobs Market Outpaces National Growth

Texas added 7,300 nonfarm jobs in November and recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2%, outperforming national trends as the state’s labor force reached a record 15.9 million workers.

The Texas Workforce Commission reported the state gained 146,300 jobs year-over-year, more than any other state.

While national job growth was the weakest in five years, with just 50,000 positions added in December, Texas maintained modest momentum. The state’s 1.0% annual job growth rate topped the national rate of 0.6%, though it fell below Texas’ historical 2% growth trend.

Large gains came from education, health services, and professional services, while trade, transportation, and mining sectors lost positions. Amarillo and Midland recorded the state’s lowest unemployment rates, while Eagle Pass and Brownsville-Harlingen had the highest.

The Chevron Houston Marathon will take over city streets today, drawing over 300,000 runners and spectators.

Major roadways, including Washington Avenue, Kirby Drive, Memorial Drive, Allen Parkway, and Avenida de las Américas, will be closed or partially closed.

Neighborhoods such as downtown, Midtown, Memorial Park, Montrose, and River Oaks are expected to experience the most significant impact. The marathon’s road closure list spans 13 pages and includes freeway ramp closures from 6 a.m. today.

Former radio personality Sarah Pepper returns to emcee the event, one of her favorite traditions since her years connecting with Houston listeners. Last year, the marathon raised funds for over 60 local charities.

Article Icon 1San Antonio’s Free Cowboy Breakfast Returns

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and Spurs Give will host the free Cowboy Breakfast on Jan. 30 outside the Frost Bank Center.

The event launches Rodeo season and the 2026 Rodeo BBQ Cookoff weekend, offering free breakfast tacos, coffee from 5 to 10 a.m., and free parking in select lots.

The morning features live music, rodeo merchandise, and appearances by the Spurs Hype Squad. Those 21 and over can purchase alcoholic beverages, including beer and the rodeo’s exclusive Surtierra Tequila, starting at 7 a.m.

Students and instructors from St. Philip’s College culinary program will help with cooking, and the rodeo will donate to support the program. The event continues a longtime San Antonio tradition ahead of the rodeo, which runs from Feb. 12 through March 1.
