Rescuers are still searching central Texas for 27 girls missing from Camp Mystic after flash flooding tore through Kerr County on July 4, killing at least 32 people—18 adults and 14 children. Three young campers have been confirmed dead, and families are gathering at reunification centers in Ingram and Kerrville for news of their loved ones.

The Guadalupe River surged more than 26 feet in under an hour, devastating the riverside town of Hunt and wiping out much of the camp. As of Friday night, at least 237 people had been rescued—167 by helicopter.

More than 6.5 inches of rain fell in three hours, a rare, century-level storm that triggered flash flood emergencies across the Hill Country. To relieve pressure on the river system, floodgates at two upstream dams were opened.

Gov. Greg Abbott declared a disaster across 15 counties and deployed more than 1,000 state responders. “We will stop at nothing to ensure…that everybody involved in this is going to be fully accounted for,” he said.

Texas Tech football landed a commitment from 2026 five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo on Friday, securing him with a fully guaranteed, three-year, $5.1 million revenue-sharing deal—one of the largest in college football history.

Ojo, a 6-foot-7 standout from Texas, chose the Red Raiders over offers from Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas. His commitment marks Texas Tech’s highest-rated recruit since ESPN began tracking rankings in 2006.

Ojo, ranked No. 7 nationally by 247Sports and No. 20 in the ESPN 300, highlights the new era of direct athlete compensation following a major NCAA legal settlement. With his commitment, Texas Tech’s 2026 class now ranks 24th nationally. You can see the full rankings here.
