DOJ Sues Over Tuition for Illegal Immigrants
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Texas over a state law that grants in-state tuition to illegal immigrants attending public universities, claiming it violates federal law and recent executive orders that prohibit taxpayer dollars from being used to benefit those illegally in the country.
In 2001, Texas became the first state to offer in-state tuition to illegal immigrants, requiring them to have lived in the state for three years before high school graduation and to sign an affidavit pledging to seek legal status.
Efforts to repeal the law have failed in the past, despite criticism from high-profile officeholders like Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton.
State Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston), who is running to succeed Paxton and authored a bill to repeal the statute during the just-concluded legislative session, welcomed the lawsuit.
Abbott Signs Key Bills
Gov. Greg Abbott held bill-signing events this week for several initiatives he advocated for during this legislative session.
On Monday, Abbott signed House Bill 150, which establishes the Texas Cyber Command at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The task force, expected to be operational in 2027, received $135 million in funding and is projected to employ 120 full-time workers.
On Tuesday, Abbott visited Houston to sign a package of bills that restrict the use of cashless personal bonds, allow prosecutors to appeal bond decisions, and prohibit local governments from funding charitable bail organizations. He praised a constitutional amendment to deny bail for certain violent offenses.
Yesterday, Abbott visited Salado Middle School to sign House Bill 2, which provides $8.5 billion in additional funding for public schools, about half of which is earmarked for teacher pay raises.
Trump Burger Goes Viral
A Texas burger chain celebrating President Donald Trump is the subject of recent profile pieces by several prominent publications, including Newsweek, The Independent, The Economic Times, and the New York Post.
The wave of publicity for Trump Burger—which has locations in Bellville, Flatonia, Kemah, and now Houston—appears to have been sparked by negative reviews. One writer proclaims she “tried it so you don’t have to,” lambasting the quality of the food and the store’s pro-Trump vibe.
Lebanese immigrant Roland Beainy opened the first Trump Burger in Bellville in 2020. Each restaurant features American flags, images of the president, quotes from him, and the chain’s staple item—a burger with the name “Trump” emblazoned on the bun.
Some of the menu items take jabs at Trump’s political opponents. The Biden Burger, for example, sells for $50.99 and includes a 1-ounce beef patty topped with “old tomato” and “the oldest buns available due to cheating and inflation.”
Remember when people said, “Nobody will rent their homes to strangers”? Early Airbnb investors who ignored the skeptics saw $1,000 grow to $5 million at the company’s IPO.
Airbnb grew to $100 billion by unlocking value in homes, and now Mode Mobile is doing the same with an asset owned by 7 billion people—smartphones.
Instead of renting spare rooms, Mode users monetize their screen time:
Over 45 million users earn from everyday activities (games, music, charging)

And with their Nasdaq ticker ($MODE) secured, you now have a limited time to invest at just $0.30/share.
