Article Icon 1More Election Highlights

U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo) won his primary with 58% of the vote following President Trump’s pardon of his federal bribery charges in December. Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina, a former Democrat who switched parties and received Trump’s endorsement, will face Cuellar in November.

U.S. Army veteran and former prosecutor Eric Flores defeated former U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores to win the GOP primary for a redrawn South Texas district, and U.S. Army veteran Trever Nehls won the GOP primary to succeed his twin brother in Congress.

State Rep. Briscoe Cain, who received Gov. Greg Abbott’s endorsement in the GOP primary for a redrawn district outside Houston, is headed to a runoff with Trump-backed U.S. Army veteran Alex Mealer. The GOP runoff for a redrawn San Antonio district also features candidates backed by Trump and Abbott.

Dallas Pastor Freddy Haynes won the Democratic primary to succeed U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and Tejano singer Bobby Pulido will challenge U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Edinburg) in November after winning his primary.

State Reps. Chris Turner (D-Grand Prairie) and Cecil Bell (R-Magnolia) lost their primaries, while most other state lawmakers defeated challengers outright or advanced to the runoff.

Former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg foiled Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai’s reelection bid, while scandal-plagued Fort Bend County Judge KP George lost his primary after switching parties to run as a Republican.

Article Icon 1Rule Change Causes Voter Confusion

New voting procedures in Dallas County and Williamson County caused confusion for some voters about where to cast their ballots, leading to delays at several polling locations.

This year, in a purported effort to reduce election fraud, each county’s Republican Party opted to require primary voters to cast their ballots in their assigned precincts on Election Day. In previous years, voters had been able to do so at any polling location in the county, but state law requires both major parties to agree to provide that option.

Hundreds of voters were reportedly turned away from party-specific polling places in both counties, causing a “lot of infuriated voters,” according to Dallas County election navigator Juston Marine. While two polling locations in Williamson County were allowed to stay open until 10 p.m., the Texas Supreme Court stayed an order to extend voting hours in Dallas County.

A statement from state Rep. James Talarico, who defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, said he was “deeply concerned about the reports of voters being turned away from the polls.” Crockett, whose district is in Dallas County, said that “people have been disenfranchised,” though she conceded to Talarico yesterday.

Article Icon 1Houston Hosts World Baseball Classic

Houston’s Daikin Park hosts Pool B of the 2026 World Baseball Classic tomorrow night. The five-team pool features national teams from Mexico, Italy, Great Britain, Brazil, and the U.S., all vying for the title of World Champions. See the schedule here.

Tomorrow night’s game features a loaded American roster. The squad includes both of last year’s Cy Young winners (Paul Skenes and Tarik Skubal), four former MVPs (Judge, Harper, Goldschmidt, Kershaw), and a combined 65 All-Star appearances.

A few Texans will be playing in the tournament, too, just not in Houston. Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña will suit up for the Dominican Republic in Miami’s Pool D, while fellow Astro Shay Whitcomb is headed to Tokyo to play for South Korea. The Texas Rangers will also be represented via pitcher Cal Quantrill, who’s playing for Canada in San Juan.

Houston will also host two quarterfinal games on March 13-14, meaning Daikin Park could see up to 12 games before the tournament shifts to Miami for the semifinals and championship. Pool play runs through March 11. Here’s how to watch.
