Article Icon 1Poll: Cornyn Trails Paxton by 16%

A new poll from a group aligned with Sen. John Cornyn shows the incumbent trailing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton by 16 points for the 2026 GOP Senate nomination.

In a three-way race with potential candidate Wesley Hunt—a second-term congressman from Houston—Paxton garners 44% support, compared to Cornyn’s 34% and Hunt’s 19%. The poll’s results mirror those of other recently conducted surveys.

Paxton has questioned Cornyn’s support for President Trump and argued Texas should have a “strong conservative” in the Senate. When asked about the poll, a Cornyn advisor claimed the senator has voted to advance Trump’s policies 99% of the time.

The poll also asked respondents about their preferred candidate in a general election matchup with Democrat Collin Allred. Cornyn led Allred by 6%, while Hunt led by 4%, and Paxton trailed by 1%.

Article Icon 1Manufacturer Seeks Low-Skilled Workers

British heavy equipment manufacturer JCB announced last month it would double the size of its plant under construction in San Antonio. David Carver, the company’s Texas operations director, recently said that local, low-skilled workers would be prioritized to fill over 1,500 jobs.

Carver expects 10% of the plant’s employees to come from within the industry and 30% to be recruited directly from local schools. The remaining 60% will come from the broader local workforce, with priority given to people who lack certifications and degrees.

JCB recruits for talent and trains people; we’re always looking for a good attitude, and if you’ve got a good attitude, you’re going to do fine,” said Carver. The average wage for the new facility’s 1,580 jobs is expected to be $54,889.

JCB broke ground on the $500 million San Antonio plant last year, and it’s expected to open next year. The company announced last month that it would expand in San Antonio to avoid tariffs on international goods.

Article Icon 1Best Donut Shops

Three of the top 50 donut shops in the U.S. are in Texas, according to an updated ranking compiled by Yelp.

Round Rock Donuts, known for their egg-based yellow glaze and Texas-sized donuts, is No. 12 on the list. Founded in 1926, the “world-famous” institution bakes more than 500 dozen donuts a day.

Golden Crown Cookies & Mochi Donuts in North Richland Hills is ranked 15th. The Asian-inspired mochi donuts are “delightfully chewy” and available in a variety of flavors. The shop also sells boba tea.

Finally, at No. 23 on the list is Frisco’s Detour Doughnuts and Coffee. Founder Jinny Cho offers both traditional varieties and flavors inspired by her Korean American heritage, such as Mango Sticky Rice, Pumpkin Mascarpone, and Orange Cardamom Hazelnut.

But while incumbents fail to impress, a new player is shaking up the smartphone industry — not with AI hype, but with real earnings for users.

Mode Mobile is completely changing smartphones, giving people the ability to earn income from the phones they already own. Their 45M+ users have already pocketed a staggering $325M+, and they were named the fastest-growing software company in 2023 by Deloitte.
