Answer: $7,200 plus a per diem payment of $221 for every day the Legislature is in session. The annual salary is established by the Texas Constitution and was last increased in 1976. Since 1991, the per diem amount has been set by the Texas Ethics Commission. Legislators are eligible for a pension after twelve years of service if they are over 50 or after eight years of service if they are over 60.
