Answer: Frank Howard Buck. Born in Gainesville in 1884, his travels took him to South America, Africa, India, Malaya, Borneo, New Guinea, and other exotic destinations. He published a best-selling autobiography titled Bring ‘Em Back Alive and appeared in several documentaries chronicling his exploits, as well as the 1949 Abbott and Costello film Africa Screams. He was also briefly the director of the San Diego Zoo. The Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville is named after him.
