Question: What is the tallest historic lighthouse in Texas?

Answer: The Bolivar Point lighthouse. It was originally built in 1852, destroyed by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, and rebuilt in 1872. Until it was decommissioned in 1933, the 117-foot-tall iron lighthouse guided ships through Galveston Bay. During the hurricane of 1900, 125 people took refuge in the lighthouse. It has been privately owned since 1947, and it is currently in a state of disrepair.

Corpus Christi’s 142-foot-tall Frazier Lighthouse, completed as part of the Lighthouse Pointe Apartment Complex in 2023, is not a functioning navigational aid.
