Question: What is the official state dinosaur of Texas?

Answer: Paluxysaurus jonesi, an herbivorous sauropod that measured about 60 feet in length and weighed around 30 tons.

In 1997, legislators designated Pleurocoelus as the official state dinosaur, but subsequent research revealed that fossils found in the Glen Rose area actually belonged to a previously unidentified species. In 2007, this new species was named Paluxysaurus jonesi, recognizing the town of Paluxy, the Paluxy River, and Jones Ranch, where the fossils were discovered. Paluxysaurus jonesi was officially adopted as the Texas state dinosaur in 2009.
