Question: What unique distinction does Sam Houston hold among America’s governors?

Answer: Houston is the only American elected governor of two different states. The Virginia native won Tennessee’s governorship in 1827 after serving four years in Congress, but resigned in 1829 after his arranged marriage to 19-year-old Eliza Allen collapsed amid rumors of alcoholism and infidelity. Three decades later, in 1859, Houston was elected governor of Texas.
