Question: What Texas town was initially named Gossip?
Answer: Venus. Several families settled in the Johnson County community in 1850s, but it didn’t begin to grow until J. C. Smyth platted the town on 80 acres of an abandoned corn field in the 1880s. He named it after the daughter of a local physician.
