Article Icon 1Flood Recovery Efforts Continue

Kerr County commissioners met Monday to discuss a range of issues related to flood recovery. They approved a request to FEMA for temporary housing and the hiring of an additional investigator for the sheriff’s office to address an uptick in crime.

Recently disclosed city emails indicate an electrical substation in Hunt was submerged under eight feet of water. Repairs will likely take two to three months.

While some summer camps have reopened, local companies that rely on summer tourism are seeing depressed sales. Meanwhile, flood survivors like L.A. Cud of Center Point are dealing with the aftermath of destroyed homes. “Fourth of July is not over for me yet,” he explained.

In nearby San Antonio, the Spurs have joined 41 local and national professional sports organizations to launch the Texas Sport for Healing Fund. Over 150 pieces of rare sports memorabilia are being auctioned through next Friday to raise money for the fund.

Article Icon 1Austin Food Blogger Searching for Stolen Dog

Austin food blogger Taylor Hannan is looking for his dog, a black terrier mix named Noodles, after his car was stolen early Friday morning with Noodles in the back seat.

Hannan had gone inside his house while his car was running to retrieve Noodles’ bed and food. He came back out just as a person wearing a black hoodie got into his car and drove away. His gutted Honda Civic was recovered about 20 miles from his house.

Hannan has owned Noodles for eight years after finding the dog on Craigslist. He filed a police report and alerted his social media followers. An organization called TRAPRS has also joined the search. “He goes with me everywhere. He’s just a good friend,” Hannan said.

In related news, Dallas-Fort Worth barbecue chef Kent Rathbun is offering $7,500 for the recovery of a stolen pit smoker. Over the weekend, NFL Hall of Famer Andre Johnson’s Houston-area home was burglarized, with jewelry and several sentimental items from his career stolen.

Article Icon 1Tesla, Samsung Agree to $16.5B Deal

Tesla has agreed to a $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to purchase its next-generation AI6 semiconductors from the Korean tech giant’s manufacturing facility under development in Taylor, which has been delayed due to challenges attracting customers.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the agreement, which lasts through 2033, will provide the company with the hardware to achieve its long-held goal of developing fully autonomous vehicles. The chips will also power the company’s Optimus humanoid robots.

Tesla recently rolled out its self-driving Robotaxi service in Austin, but each of its vehicles is currently occupied by a human driver. The company is in the process of expanding the service to San Francisco.

For Samsung, the deal enhances its reputation as a competitor to Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC, which boasts a dominant 67.6% market share.
