Amazon-owned robotaxi service Zoox will begin mapping the streets of Dallas and Phoenix for its autonomous toaster-shaped vehicles, the company announced Monday. Zoox has provided more than 300,000 riders since the service debuted last year in San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Company representatives said the new markets will provide opportunities to test the technology in “diverse weather and complex road networks.” Human drivers will use Toyota Highlanders equipped with numerous sensors for mapping before the robotaxi service is rolled out.

Amazon acquired Zoox for $1.3 billion in 2020 and has a presence in 10 U.S. markets, including testing in Austin. The company aims to produce 10,000 robotaxis a year at its new 220,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Two members of McAllen High School’s award-winning mariachi band—brothers Antonio and Caleb Gámez-Cuéllar—were released from ICE custody with their family yesterday after criticism from lawmakers and Tejano music star Bobby Pulido, a Democrat running for Congress in South Texas.

The Gámez-Cuéllar family entered the country in 2023 using the now-defunct CBP One app, which the Biden administration promoted to streamline migrants’ asylum claims. Last April, the Trump administration revoked the legal status of those admitted through the app, and the family was arrested during an immigration check-in on Feb. 25.

Antonio, 18, was sent to the El Valle Detention Facility in Raymondville, while the rest of his family was detained more than 200 miles away at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley.

After Pulido posted a video about the family’s situation, U.S. Reps. Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio) and Monica De La Cruz (R-Edinburg) said they were trying to secure their release.

These are our neighbors, friends, and valued members of the community,” said De La Cruz, adding that she favors the deportation of illegal immigrants “who actually threaten our communities.” De La Cruz hosted McAllen High School’s mariachi band at the U.S. Capitol last summer.

Dozens of NFL players who are set to become free agents agreed to deals with new teams yesterday, and the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans got in on the action with some big-name acquisitions, trades, and contract extensions.

The Cowboys agreed to a 3-year deal worth $36 million with former Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson, 27, and acquired 28-year-old pass rusher Rashan Gary from the Packers for a 4th-round pick in next year’s draft. Last year, the Cowboys’ defense gave up the most passing yards (251.5) and points (30.1) per game.

The Texans, meanwhile, signed former Bears defensive end Dominique Robinson, 27, to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million. They also agreed to contract extensions of $37.5 million with guard Ed Ingram, 27, and $12 million with defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins, 31.
