Missing World War II Pilot Identified
The U.S. Department of Defense announced Monday that the remains of First Lieutenant Charles W. McCook, a 23-year-old Georgetown native who was killed during World War II, had been identified earlier this year.
McCook, a pilot in the Army Air Forces, died when his B-25 crashed during a low-altitude bombing raid in Burma. Two of the six crew members were captured by Japanese forces, while the remaining four perished and were declared missing in action.
Their remains were recovered in 1947 in a common grave near a Burmese village. They were unidentified at the time and were interred as “unknowns” in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu.
McCook’s remains were exhumed in 2022 and identified using dental, anthropological, isotope, and mitochondrial DNA analysis. He will be buried in Georgetown in August, and a rosette will mark his name on the Walls of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery to indicate he has been accounted for.
Legislature Restricts Use of Cellphones, Food Stamps
Bills passed during this year’s legislative session would add Texas to the growing number of states that have banned student cellphones from public schools and prohibited the purchase of junk food using food stamps.
House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using their phones during the school day and requires school districts to determine how to implement the restriction. Several Texas school districts have already banned student cellphones, and at least nine other states have similar policies.
Senate Bill 379 would prevent the purchase of sodas and candy using federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. “Taxpayer-funded soda and junk food turn into taxpayer-funded healthcare,” said bill author Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston).
Before the legislation can take effect, the state must receive a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which Gov. Abbott requested last month. Nebraska recently became the first state to receive such a waiver.
All-Texas Women’s College World Series
This year’s Women’s College World Series final features an all-Texas showdown between No. 6 Texas and No. 12 Texas Tech. Both teams are vying for their first NCAA softball championship in a best-of-three series starting tonight.
Both the Longhorns and the Red Raiders faced four-time defending champion Oklahoma on their way to the final. The Sooners were the favorite coming into the WCWS, having played in every final since 2018.
Texas lost to Oklahoma in the 2022 and 2024 championships, and their 4-2 win over their rivals on Saturday was their first ever in the NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders beat Oklahoma 3-2 on Monday to advance to their first WCWS final.
The Longhorns have several strong pitchers on their roster, and their .357 batting average is the second-best in the NCAA. The Red Raiders, meanwhile, will lean on NiJaree Canady, who struck out more than 300 batters this year and whose 0.89 ERA is the best in the country.

Andrew McKinley, a local chef from Indiana, had been suffering from tinnitus for over 13 years. The constant ear ringing disrupted his sleep, focus, and daily life—until something unexpected happened.
One evening, Andrew prepared a new dish using a unique blend of ingredients. The moment he took a bite, he noticed the ringing in his ears began to fade. Within minutes, the buzzing got quieter… and then completely vanished.
Shocked and curious, Andrew consulted medical experts. Tests revealed that his dish contained a rare spice known for its powerful neurological benefits. Doctors were stunned—this single spice appeared to calm the nerves responsible for Tinnitus.
Now, researchers say just one tablespoon of this spice may be enough to silence ear ringing for good, without pills, surgery, or expensive treatments.
Over 45,000 people have already tried it with incredible success.
