Hospitals Spent Millions Treating Illegal Immigrants
A Texas House committee hearing on Monday revealed that Texas hospitals spent millions of dollars in recent months to treat tens of thousands of patients not lawfully in the United States.
The hearing was held to consider a bill to formalize the order. State Rep. Mike Olcott (R-Fort Worth), the bill’s author, claimed 181 rural hospitals have closed since 2005 due to uncompensated care, and he wants to know what percentage of that is “due to people here illegally.”
According to the Texas Hospital Association, Texas hospitals spend $3.1 billion a year on uninsured care that is not reimbursed. With more than 4 million residents lacking health insurance, Texas has one of the highest uninsured rates in the nation.
Water Official Forced to Resign
Maria-Elena Giner, commissioner of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) since 2021, resigned under pressure from the Trump administration over sewage-contaminated water being allowed to flow into the U.S. from Mexico via the Tijuana River. The IBWC is located in El Paso.
The Tijuana River has been polluted with raw sewage for years. Beaches in the San Diego area have been closed for 1,000 consecutive days, and Navy SEALS are forced to train in contaminated waters.
The shakeup comes as South Texas farmers and ranchers face an ongoing drought and grapple with Mexico’s failure to deliver water in accordance with a 1944 treaty, which caused the state’s 51-year-old sugar industry to shut down last year.
During her tenure, Giner lobbied Congress to increase the commission’s budget and negotiated Mexican water deliveries from sources not subject to the treaty. William “Chad” McIntosh, the EPA’s acting deputy administrator, has been appointed as Giner’s replacement.
Fiesta San Antonio Kicks Off
Fiesta San Antonio—an annual celebration filled with food, music, and colorful outfits—kicks off today and will run through next weekend. The event is expected to draw up to two million visitors and generate around $340 million for the local economy.
Dating back to 1891, Fiesta San Antonio commemorates the Texans who fought and died at the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. In recent years, the festival has also become a celebration of San Antonio’s diverse culture.
Over 100 official activities—both free and ticketed—have been scheduled over the next 11 days, including tonight’s free Fiesta Fiesta party at Travis Park, a $30 Oyster Bake tomorrow and Saturday at St. Mary’s University, and next week’s A Night in Old San Antonio food bazaar.
Heightened security measures have been implemented for this year’s event, following a shooting that killed two and injured four last year. Vehicle barriers have been installed in several places, along with a 30% boost in the number of officers on duty compared to previous years.

This method has been vetted by scientists from the University College Cork.
Their studies, made on 674 women dealing with deep wrinkles, dark spots and saggy skin, clearly showed how, by simply doing this for 10-seconds in the mirror, they dramatically improved their appearance in less than a few weeks.
This odd method is so effective that scientists have deemed it 10 times better than retinol, but with none of the side effects.
