SCOTUS Upholds Texas Porn Site Law
In a Friday ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a Texas law that requires porn sites to verify that users are at least 18 before granting access.
The 6-3 decision, split along ideological lines, confirmed the law doesn’t violate free speech, marking the end of the lawsuit from Free Speech Coalition, which represents the adult entertainment industry and sued Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over the 2023 law.
The ruling sets a precedent for other states seeking to restrict child access to explicit adult content, with nearly half of U.S. states having passed similar measures.
Former Gov. Perry to Build Huge Energy Plant
Newly-established Fermi America, co-founded by former Texas governor and U.S. Energy Sec. Rick Perry, has announced the development of the world’s largest AI data and energy campus near Amarillo.
Fermi is partnering with Texas Tech University on the “Hypergrid” project, with plans to produce up to 11 gigawatts of energy on its 5,800-acre campus using nuclear, natural gas, and solar.
Perry says that China is building 22 nuclear reactors while the U.S. is building none, adding, “We’re behind—and it’s all hands on deck. We need to be doing everything in our power to win this race, because this is the race that really matters.”
The project is set to launch on July 4, aiming to have 1 gigawatt of power online by the end of 2026.
Armed Woman Sits in Lawn Chair on I-45
A mentally ill 64-year-old woman carrying a .38 revolver sat in a lawn chair on I-45 Thursday, causing an hours-long standoff with police before her eventual surrender and arrest.
The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, intentionally spun her car into an 18-wheeler before exiting her vehicle and sitting on a lawn chair in the middle of the highway.
In what police described as a “very delicate situation,” they took several hours in approaching the woman while she threatened to shoot herself, shutting down both sides of the interstate during the impasse.
A crisis negotiator and the woman’s daughter were called to the scene, with police saying, “Once she realized her daughter was here, she was safe, she was going to be allowed to see her again, it got better at that point.”
