The Roundup

Article Icon 1Texans Vote Today

Texans head to the polls today to vote on 17 proposed constitutional amendments and several major local issues across the state.

Statewide, Proposition 16 would amend the Texas Constitution to provide that “persons who are not citizens of the United States” cannot vote in Texas, echoing federal law but backed by Republicans as a voter integrity measure.

Proposition 14 proposes a state-funded $3 billion institute for dementia research and treatment, drawing broad support despite concerns about long-term costs.

Proposition 4 channels state sales tax revenue into a new Texas Water Fund to upgrade aging infrastructure amid drought and population growth.

In Austin, Proposition Q looks to raise property taxes by $300 a year for the average homeowner to fund homelessness services, EMS staffing, parks, and public health.

Article Icon 1Kimberly-Clark to Acquire Tylenol Maker

Kimberly-Clark, based in Texas, announced Monday it will acquire Kenvue, the maker of Tylenol and Band-Aids, in a $48.7 billion cash and stock deal.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2026, creating a consumer goods giant that will generate approximately $32 billion annually by combining Kimberly-Clark’s well-known name brands, such as Huggies, Cottonelle, and Kleenex, with Kenvue’s established brands.

Kimberly-Clark will keep its headquarters in Irving. Shareholders are set to own about 54% of the combined entity, which is targeting $1.9 billion in cost savings over the next three years.

Article Icon 1Houston, Dallas Airports See Delays

Air travel across the U.S. has been disrupted as thousands of TSA agents and air traffic controllers work without pay amid the government shutdown.

TSA wait times have reportedly exceeded three hours at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Both Bush and DFW continue to rank high among all U.S. airports for delays, according to the FlightAware “misery map,” tracking shutdown-related disruptions.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy acknowledged the strain, stating that safety will come first, but travelers should brace for more delays, cancellations, and long lines if the shutdown continues.
