Good Morning! On this day in 1849, Austin College was incorporated in Huntsville on land donated by the family of Stephen F. Austin. Republic of Texas presidents Sam Houston and Anson Jones were charter members of the board of trustees. In 1876, the Presbyterian liberal arts school moved to Sherman.
Dallas-based Heritage Auctions just sold a Superman comic book for $9.12 million, shattering the previous record comic book auction sale. Not too shabby for the three brothers who made the rare find in their late mom’s attic.
If you love Texas history—or know someone who does—the Texas State Historical Association’s early Black Friday sale is the perfect chance to grab beloved Texas books, maps, and gifts at the lowest prices of the year.

We’re Nearly There
Over the last 12 days, we’ve been sprinting toward one goal: reaching 2,000 reader-investors. Today, I want to be fully transparent—we fell short. As I write this, we’re about 147 investors away.
Falling short never feels good. And yet, I’m enormously grateful.
1,853 of you have already stepped up to become owners of The Flyover. You’ve placed your trust, your belief, and your investment behind what we’re building. Because of that support, we’ve accomplished more in the last few months than at any point in our history. This morning alone, we delivered to a record 3.7 million readers, and our revenue is up 24% month-over-month.
That’s because of you.
The Flyover is building something different: a newsroom for common-sense Americans. A home for people who stopped watching the news because they couldn’t trust it. A publication committed to honesty, fairness, and fact-first reporting.
To keep building this movement, reaching 2,000 investors truly matters.
So today, I’m being straight with you: we’re close, but we need your help. If you’ve considered investing—whether small or large—today would be the day. If The Flyover has earned your trust, we hope you’ll take that final step and become an investor.

Dissenting Redistricting Case Judge Lashes Out
Federal judge Jerry Smith, the lone dissenter in Tuesday’s 2-1 ruling blocking the redraw of Texas’ congressional map, released his opinion a day after the ruling, sharply criticizing the court’s other two judges in a break from typical judicial decorum.
Smith (a Reagan appointee) took offense at the majority opinion being released before he finished his dissent and alleged “pernicious judicial misbehavior” on the part of Judge Jeffrey Brown (a Trump appointee), who wrote the majority decision.
“This is the most outrageous conduct by a judge that I have ever encountered,” Smith wrote in his 104-page document, which repeated the phrase “I dissent” 15 times and referred to Brown as “a legislator/activist jurist” and “an unskilled magician” who “prefers living in fantasyland.”

Residents Seek Higher Ground Amid Flooding
Heavy rains battered Texas Hill Country on Thursday afternoon and evening, causing flash floods in the region and prompting a flash flood emergency warning from the National Weather Service.
Dallas also reported almost 4 inches of rain on Thursday, contributing to what is now the wettest November on record for the state.
Menard County saw more than 9 inches of rain, forcing people out of an RV park and directing them to higher ground as floodwaters made roads impassable.
Rains dissipated Friday morning, and no casualties have been reported from the flash flooding. You can watch a video of the flooding here.

New Golf Course Makes Top 100 List
Childress Hall’s Upper Course in the Texas Panhandle landed at No. 73 in Golf’s top 100 courses worldwide for 2025-26, marking the state’s only representation on the coveted list.
The Upper Course, which opened for preview play in December 2024, was designed by famed architect Tom Doak, who boasts multiple courses on the top 100 list.
Golf’s write-up on the course says its “persistent demand for choices is what makes it so compelling,” adding that its “strategic variety” elevated it to the list.
You can see the full top 100 list here.
