Article Icon 1Texas Honey Production Up

Texas beekeepers produced more than 4 million pounds of honey this season, marking a strong rebound from lower outputs in recent years. At an average market price of $2.24 a pound, this season’s honey production is worth nearly $9 million.

Texas A&M AgriLife attributes this season’s output to extended wildflower blooms after above-average rains in spring and early summer. The average colony produced 46 pounds of honey.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller also credited pesticide regulators for working with farmers to foster conditions where bees can thrive. “There’s nothing sweeter than a Texas comeback, and this year’s honey harvest proves it,” said Miller.

While output is up, beekeepers still lost about 50% of hives this season, largely due to infestations of the parasitic Varroa mite, which has developed resistance to the chemical used to kill it.

A service at a Houston funeral home was interrupted Friday when police showed up with a search warrant to investigate allegations of identity theft.

Clients of A Community Funeral Home say their deceased loved one’s credit cards and financial accounts were accessed. During the investigation, police discovered the funeral home’s license had been revoked in 2022.

Unique Mica Green, the 45-year-old president of the funeral home, was arrested on a forgery charge earlier this month. Police confiscated several boxes of financial records and a dozen cremated remains on Friday.

Taysha Rhodes, a former client of the funeral home, told a local news outlet she has been trying to retrieve her uncle’s cremated remains for two years. “My uncle deserves more. He deserves to be at his final resting place with his family,” she said.

Article Icon 1Trump Burger Restaurants Renamed

The Texas chain of restaurants formerly known as Trump Burger has undergone significant changes, with multiple ownership transitions and each of its four locations adopting a new name.

The first location in Bellville, which owners Suad Hamedah and Iyad Abuelhawa rebranded to Trump Cafe in 2016, was sold last year and is now called President Burger.

The Flatonia location, now called MAGA Burger, is tied up in an ownership dispute between Roland Beainy, a Lebanese immigrant detained by ICE for overstaying his visa, and Abuelhawa.

It is unclear who owns the Houston location, which is preparing to reopen as Empire Pizza after closing last month.

Earlier this year, the Trump Organization reportedly sent cease-and-desist letters to the chain, claiming its former name was trademark infringement.

Long-term care isn’t always fully covered by Medicare.

Nearly half of Americans over 65 will eventually need some form of long-term care—from help with dressing and meal prep to full-time nursing support. But here’s the catch: Medicare and Medigap usually don’t cover these costs unless tied to medical treatment. That means many people end up paying for in-home assistance or nursing care out of pocket, and those bills can add up fast.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Look into long-term care insurance: It can help cover daily assistance costs that Medicare won’t.

  • Plan early: The younger and healthier you are when you apply, the lower your premiums tend to be.

  • Review hybrid life insurance options: Some policies now include long-term care benefits.

Medicare’s annual enrollment period for 2026 closes on Dec. 7, so make sure you explore the options you need to protect your health and finances for the years ahead.
