Article Icon 1Sterile Fly Dispersal Facility Opens in Edinburg

A new sterile fly dispersal facility at Moore Air Base in Edinburg is up and running, bolstering the ongoing effort to prevent the spread of the parasitic New World screwworm into the United States. Screwworm infections have been detected in Mexican cattle within 80 miles of the Texas border.

The site will facilitate the dispersal of sterile male flies bred in Panama and Mexico, where the U.S. Department of Agriculture has invested $21 million to convert a fruit fly factory into a screwworm production facility that will double Panama’s weekly output of about 117 million sterile flies.

The USDA’s plan to combat the screwworm also includes building a new $750 million sterile fly factory in Edinburg to accompany the dispersal facility. The factory will have the capacity to produce 300 million sterile flies a week when it’s completed at the end of next year.

Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said that previous models indicated the screwworm would spread to Texas as early as last fall. “It’s a real testament to the all hands on deck—federal, state, and local—the fact that we do not have the pest in our country yet,” she said.

Article Icon 1Colony Ridge Agrees to $68 Million Settlement

Federal and state prosecutors agreed to a $68 million settlement with the developers of Liberty County’s sprawling Colony Ridge community on Tuesday, resolving years of litigation over allegations they targeted Hispanics with deceptive sales tactics and predatory lending, creating what Attorney General Ken Paxton characterized as a “haven for illegals.”

The agreement requires the developers to verify the legal status of potential buyers and bars them from building new residential communities for three years. It also restricts the marketing of “move-in ready” homes and mandates enhanced underwriting standards.

The developers must spend $48 million on improved infrastructure within Colony Ridge, including $18 million earmarked for flood mitigation. Another $20 million must be spent on increasing law enforcement presence in the community.

Intentionally targeting vulnerable borrowers with the American dream of homeownership and then trapping them in a predatory scheme is not only wrong, it also violates our civil rights laws,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon.

Article Icon 1‘Mattress Mack’ Loses Big Super Bowl Bet

Houston furniture salesman Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale lost $2 million on a bet that the New England Patriots would upset the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. It was the largest wager Caesars Sportsbook accepted this year.

McIngvale, 75, is known to place large bets on sports contests in conjunction with promotions at his Gallery Furniture stores, famously winning $75 million when the Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series. This year, he offered customers who spent $4,000 or more full refunds if the Patriots won.

New England has a good team. Seattle is the hot favorite, but favorites don’t always win,” he said before the contest. “It’s a football game. Anything can happen.”

McIngvale correctly picked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win the Super Bowl in 2021, but he lost millions when the Cincinnati Bengals lost in 2022. He sat out last year’s contest as he was recovering from heart surgery.

Under a White House that favors energy production on our home soil, Frontieras North America could unlock up to $2.1 trillion in energy potential. They can convert coal into high-value products like hydrogen and diesel without burning it.

But that’s not even the best part. They’re doing it in what was once the heart of American industry: Appalachia. Their new land purchase in Mason County, West Virginia, has earned praise from West Virginia Gov. Morrisey for its potential to transform the region into an energy powerhouse.

Here’s why you shouldn’t miss this last chance to invest at $7.38/share

  • “FASF” ticker reserved on the NASDAQ

  • $850M flagship facility now being built

  • $10 million raised from investors so far
