Article Icon 1Arlington Hosts IndyCar Grand Prix

IndyCar is coming to North Texas this weekend for the inaugural Java House Grand Prix of Arlington. During the premiere event on Sunday, 25 drivers will do 70 laps around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field on a 2.73-mile course.

The weekend also features races in the Toyota GR Cup and USF Pro 2000 series, several stunt shows each day, and daily live performances. Several former Cowboys and Rangers players will be on hand to sign autographs, including Charles Haley, Drew Pearson, Elvis Andrus, and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.

Work on the venue started months ago. First responders will be stationed at each of the course’s 14 turns, and a fully operational medical center has been set up behind the grandstands. Click here to view the course map.

General admission ranges from $35 to $90, while parking is $40 to $55, depending on the day. Children 12 and under are free.

Article Icon 1Harris County Judge Booted From Rodeo

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo got into a heated argument with RodeoHouston officials on Tuesday when she was asked to leave the sold-out premium viewing area during Tuesday night’s Megan Moroney concert.

Hidalgo was provided 21 free “chute” tickets—a value of $8,925—for three earlier performances, but she didn’t have a wristband authorizing access to the arena floor for the Moroney show. She posted several audio recordings of the confrontation with rodeo officials, claiming she was “manhandled” and accusing them of sexism and racism.

In a statement, Hidalgo claimed she had attended previous events without a wristband and was attending Tuesday’s show with another elected official, her daughters, and the parents of a recently deceased Air Force sergeant. “I wonder, if I had been a male county executive, would they have reacted the same way?” she wrote.

Yesterday, the rodeo’s executive committee revoked her status as an ex officio director of the event. Chairwoman Pat Mann Phillips and President and CEO Chris Boleman said in a statement that Hidalgo’s allegations were “false and insulting.”

On Wednesday, the Houston Police Officers’ Union posted an AI-generated meme of a woman resembling Hidalgo getting kicked out of the rodeo. Hidalgo is not running for reelection this year.

Article Icon 1Best New Restaurants

Texas Monthly has released its annual list of the state’s top 10 new restaurants. Four Houston restaurants made the cut, while three are in Dallas.

Restaurants must have opened before Nov. 1, 2025, to be included in the list. Author Paula Forbes called the past year “a lackluster one for Texas restaurants,” explaining that new establishments “focused on delivering tried-and-true crowd-pleasers.”

Houston’s Agnes and Sherman, an Asian American diner run by chef Nick Wong, was named Restaurant of the Year. Other Houston establishments include Mexican seafood restaurant Zaranda, Di An Pho—whose two dishes are beef pho and chicken pho—and Latuli, which offers favorites from chef Bryan Caswell.

Dallas restaurants included Rainbowcat at the West Texas–inspired Saint Valentine bar, Mamani—a French and Italian diner that earned a Michelin star after it had only been open for a few weeks—and omakase diner Sushi Kozy.

Rounding out the list were Austin’s Fish Shop and two French restaurants: San Antonio’s Petit Coquin and BonFire in Paris.
