Question: Where in Texas can you see fragments of Ireland’s celebrated Blarney Stone?

Answer: In the town of Shamrock and at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. In the 1950s, a piece of the Blarney Stone broke off the Irish castle by the same name, and Shamrock officials successfully lobbied to have it transported to the Panhandle town. It was set in a concrete pillar and dedicated on St. Patrick’s Day in 1959.

In 1939, a group of Texas Tech petroleum engineers reportedly found a piece of the Blarney Stone that had been missing since 1659. It was unveiled on St. Patrick’s Day of that year, sitting atop a pillar in front of the old Electrical Engineering Building.
