Question: What happened to the ballparks where the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros (originally the Colt .45s) played their first home games?
Answer: Arlington Stadium, a minor league field originally called Turnpike Stadium, was torn down after the Rangers moved to the nearby Ballpark in Arlington (now known as Choctaw Stadium) in 1994.
After the Houston Colt .45s rebranded as the Astros and moved to the Harris County Domed Stadium (later renamed the Astrodome) in 1965, Colt Stadium was painted black to match the color of its parking lot’s asphalt. In 1971, Astros owner Roy Hofheinz sold Colt Stadium to a Mexican businessman, who disassembled it and moved it to Torreón, Mexico. The ballpark moved again in the 1980s, this time to Tamaulipas. Later, parts of it were used to build a children’s playground.
