Good Morning! On this day in 1680, Franciscan friars founded a mission near present-day El Paso for Spanish and Pueblo refugees fleeing the Pueblo Revolt in New Mexico. Its early church grounds are the oldest known mission site in Texas.
Et Cetera has an item about the volunteers who tackled 23 projects together on a community day of service in Abilene. We’re curious: Have you served during an event like that? If so, what kinds of projects have you worked on?
How many benefits come with the credit card in your wallet? Buried in the benefits guide that most cardholders never open are protections that can be worth real money. One can cover your hotel and meals when a flight strands you overnight, another the phone in your pocket. But the coverage only counts if you know it’s there, and plenty of people don’t. In one survey, almost 40% of cardholders had no idea they carried the benefit at No. 1 on our list. So what’s already on your card, and how do you use your perks? Ayla has the full story on today’s episode of The Flyover Podcast. Tune in here!

Man Struck by ICE SUV in Custody
An ICE agent’s SUV struck a man running from immigration agents Saturday morning near Clay Road and Highway 6 in west Harris County, leaving him with two injured legs, including one broken in three places.
ICE said agents were after Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, who has four DUI arrests and two prior deportations, when Miguel Parra-Hernandez ran in front of an agent’s SUV, according to ICE. Deputies said the agent was trying to box him in.
Parra-Hernandez’s attorney, Kim Bruno, said her client has never met Mendoza-Cervantes. Parra-Hernandez remains in ICE custody, and Bruno said agents have kept her from seeing him.
ICE said Parra-Hernandez is in the country illegally. His niece said he’s lived here 34 years with no criminal record. The original target of the ICE agents remains at large.

Young Californians Moving to Texas
More than 19,000 Gen Z adults moved from California to Texas in 2024, as the Golden State posted the nation’s largest net loss of young residents, a new LendingTree study of Census data found.
The traffic runs both ways: 13,362 Gen Zers moved from Texas to California the same year, leaving Texas a net gain of 5,925 in the exchange. Overall, 186,827 young adults left California, for a net loss of 58,109.
Texas drew 157,869 Gen Z newcomers in 2024, the most of any state. Subtract the roughly 147,000 who left, and Texas netted 10,720, ranking No. 7 nationally behind leader South Carolina.
California’s median home price runs near $775,000, more than double the roughly $330,000 median in Texas, where overall living costs are about 35% lower.

San Antonio Zoo Hits 1 Million
The San Antonio Zoo welcomed its millionth guest of 2026 on Oct. 9, two months earlier than last year, and Cowboy the Rhino was at the gate to greet the Ibarra-Lorenzo family of six.
The family left with a year of free memberships, animal encounter tickets, and a gift basket. Grandmother Jenny Ibarra was making her first visit with both grandchildren. Her daughter, Gabby Lorenzo-Rodriguez, once worked in the zoo’s gift shop, and Gabby’s father helped build Congo Falls.
The zoo credits part of this year’s pace to that habitat, its biggest habitat expansion yet, which opened in December 2025 with seven western lowland gorillas.

How to Survive 16 Days Underwater
In March, an underwater drone traveled 1,257 miles over 16 days without ever coming up, roughly the distance from Los Angeles to Dallas.
That kind of uninterrupted range underwater used to require a nuclear reactor. But this world-first performance was powered by Infinity’s hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Why’s this a big deal? Unlike batteries that must get bigger to run longer, Infinity’s fuel cells deliver massive performance in small packages. This enables drones to operate without surfacing or recharging, a key strategic advantage for customers like the U.S. Navy.
The Navy isn’t the only one betting on Infinity, either. This tech has also logged 2,600+ hours for NASA. In total, Infinity’s won $60M+ in past and current contracts.
Now they’re scaling production to meet demand and inviting investors to share in their potential. And if you invest by Thursday, you’ll earn 5% in guaranteed bonus stock. Maximize your early-stage Infinity stake before the deadline.
