Article Icon 1 U.S. House Republicans Warn President Biden

Twenty-four House Republicans have cautioned President Biden against federalizing the Texas National Guard amid a border standoff. They contend this move would violate the constitution and have urged the president to work with Texas to ensure border security.

Under the leadership of Rep. Randy Weber, the group underscored the importance of governors maintaining command of their state forces:

By deploying the National Guard, Governor Abbott has taken the necessary steps to defend this country and her people from foreign invaders.

The push by Democratic lawmakers for Biden to seize control of the Texas National Guard came after troops took control of a park in Eagle Pass—a major border-crossing point used by illegal immigrants.
