Article Icon 1Texas Leads Nation in Job Creation

Texas led the nation in job creation over the previous 12 months, adding 192,100 nonfarm jobs, according to the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s 1.4% rate of growth surpassed the national rate by 0.2%.

Last month, the number of Texans in the civilian labor force (15,778,500)—and those actively working (15,137,500)—reached all-time highs. The state’s 4.1% unemployment rate beat the national average of 4.2%. Midland’s 2.9% unemployment rate is the lowest in Texas.

In a press release, Gov. Greg Abbott praised the state’s “booming economy and highly skilled workforce,” touting pending legislation to increase public school funding and expand career and technical training programs.

Article Icon 1Kidd, Thompson Reflect on Mavericks’ Season

A year after going to the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks lost more than half of their games and were eliminated from playoff contention Friday night. However, during a post-game press conference, head coach Jason Kidd said the Mavericks had an “incredible season.”

“When you look at the injuries that we’ve had, the change, for us to even be here playing in this game tonight, it’s incredible,” he explained.

Mavericks’ perimeter threat Klay Thompson, on the other hand, acknowledged it was a “tumultuous” season. Thompson signed a three-year contract with the Mavericks as a free agent last summer.

When asked if he would have made that decision if he had known Luka Doncic would be traded this year, Thompson said, “That’s kind of a ridiculous question because I don’t own a time machine. I’m here in Dallas, and I’m looking forward to the future.”
