A group known as the “Gonzales Plaintiffs” filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of the Republican-backed congressional redistricting plan hours after it passed the Senate early Saturday morning.
The lawsuit is an amendment to an ongoing challenge to the map passed following the 2020 census. It alleges that the new plan creates malapportioned districts and was drawn with the intent to dilute the voting power of minorities.
Meanwhile, State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park) is the first candidate to announce he is running for one of five new Republican-leaning districts.
The 9th Congressional District, currently held by U.S. Rep. Al Green (D-Houston), backed Kamala Harris by 44% last year. It was redrawn to include voters who supported President Trump by 20%.
Fort Hood Tests Expanded Dining Pilot Program
Over the past two weeks, 200 Fort Hood soldiers have participated in a U.S. Army pilot program that provides expanded dining options for those who use their Common Access Card to purchase meals.
The Flexible Eating and Expanded Dining (FEED) program allows soldiers to use their meal entitlements at on-base restaurants like Subway, Starbucks, Qdoba, and Burger King, which are open later than the dining facility.
Military dietitians have selected items available for purchase through the program. In addition to providing flexibility, the program aims to collect data on soldiers’ preferences.
“It’s about accessibility. If a soldier can’t make it to a dining facility, that soldier now has somewhere to go to get a meal without forfeiting their entitlements,” logistics specialist Rick Bennett said.
Midwestern State University sophomore Gabbrielle Wrightsman won the women’s division of the 100-mile race in a time of 3:49:09.8, and Gabriel Porterfield won the men’s division in 3:47:19.7.
“I beat my opponent to the line, and she’s crazy fast, so I was really excited about it,” said Wrightsman.
