State GDP and Income Growth Outpace National
New data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis revealed that Texas’ second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) growth was 6.8%, outpacing the national rate of 3.8% and trailing only North Dakota for the highest expansion rate in the country.
The largest factors contributing to the growth were the expansion of the mining, quarrying, oil and gas extraction industries, which accounted for 2.01% of the state’s expansion, and manufacturing industries, which accounted for 1.53%.
Texans’ personal income also increased by 6.4% annually, beating the national average of 5.5%. Gov. Greg Abbott celebrated the report, citing Texas’ commitment to slashing red tape and unleashing economic development.
DNA Linked to 1991 Murders
Austin police announced on Friday that new DNA evidence has linked a suspect to the Austin “Yogurt Shop Murders,” where four teenage girls were shot in 1991.
The DNA reportedly belongs to Robert Eugene Brashers, a suspected serial predator. Brashers committed suicide in 1999 during a police standoff in Missouri. He has now been linked through DNA to three other rapes and murders in other states.
Two other men, teenagers at the time of the murders, had initially confessed and been convicted, though they later said their statements were made under duress. The new DNA analysis pointed to Brashers, and both men were released.
Six Employers Noted for Culture
A new Forbes list ranked hundreds of employers in the U.S. based on company culture. Six Texas employers placed in the top 100, and several more were on the longer list.
The list ranked organizations on various metrics and was built from surveys of more than 218,000 workers employed at companies with at least 1,000 people.
Houston Methodist was the highest-ranked Texas firm at No. 15, followed by MD Anderson Cancer Center (No. 47), Austin Community College District (No. 56), The Container Store (No. 58), Cook Children’s Healthcare System (No. 61), and Lewisville Independent School District (No. 73).
Dear Flyover Reader,
Since launching our crowdfunding campaign to open Flyover ownership to readers, we’ve been overwhelmed and humbled by the response. More than a thousand readers have already joined us as investors—and they’re now part of our ownership team.
But we also know many of you care deeply about The Flyover’s mission, even if now isn’t the right time to invest. Some of you have asked, “How can I still be part of the team?”
It’s a way for every reader who believes in fact-first, common-sense news to step in and join the team—even without investing.
The Flyover will always be free to read. But if you believe our work is worth more than “free,” then this is your chance to stand alongside us and support the movement we’re building together.
Every contribution helps us grow our readership, expand into new states, and keep producing the kind of news that millions of Americans already rely on.
Legacy media has failed. The Flyover exists because readers like you are proving that a better way is possible.
Thank you for standing with us—whether as an investor, a tipper, or simply a loyal reader. You are the reason we’re building something different and you are part of a great team!
With gratitude, Cole CEO, The Flyover
