Question: What famous folk singer wrote a song inspired by a dust storm that caused some Pampa residents to think the world was ending?

Answer: Woody Guthrie. Known for his 1940 song “This Land Is Your Land,” Guthrie penned “So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Yuh” after living through the April 14, 1935, “Black Sunday” dust storm in Pampa. It is included in his first album, Dust Bowl Ballads. The enormous storm is estimated to have displaced 300,000 tons of topsoil in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles.
