Question: Which Texas airport has a people mover built by a division of Walt Disney Company?
Answer: George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The underground subway transports 2.9 million passengers a year between the airport’s five terminals before they go through security. (The newer, elevated Skyway transports passengers between terminals after they have been through security.)
The Subway was built by WED Transportation Systems, a division of what is now known as Walt Disney Imagineering. Like the PeopleMover at the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, it uses linear induction motors in the track for propulsion. It is the only such transportation system Disney has built outside its properties. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were on hand to celebrate The Subway’s opening in 1981.
