Question: What is the name of the 47-foot cowboy sculpture in Canyon?

Answer: Tex Randall. High school shop teacher Harry Wheeler constructed the seven-ton sculpture out of steel and concrete in 1959 to promote a local western wear store. The store closed after U.S. Route 60 was rerouted, and the sculpture fell into disrepair. During a 1987 campaign to “Save the Cowboy,” the Tex Randall—named in honor of Randall County—received a new face and outfit. In 2013, the Texas Department of Transportation allocated $300,000 to build a park featuring Tex Randall as the centerpiece.
