Question: What is the only non-numbered state highway in Texas?

Answer: The 62-mile State Highway OSR from Bryan to Midway. The route follows the Old San Antonio Road, a historic trail that extends from modern-day Eagle Pass to East Texas. It was blazed in the 1690s by Spanish explorer Alonso de León as El Camino Real de Los Tejas (“The King’s Highway”).

San Antonio de Bexar was the first of many communities established along the trail in 1718. In 1915, the Daughters of the American Revolution funded a project to erect 123 markers along the Old San Antonio Road, only nine of which currently remain. In 2004, President George W. Bush signed legislation designating the route a National Historic Trail.
