Question: Where can you visit the oldest continually operating opera house in Texas?

Answer: Galveston. The Grand 1894 Opera House was founded by theater manager Henry Greenwall and prominent local businessmen and constructed for $100,000. Opening night tickets on January 3, 1895 ranged from $0.25 to $1.50. The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 caused severe damage, but it was restored and reopened a year later. The opera house was also severely damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008, but it was repaired in just 92 days. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was recognized as the “Official Opera House of Texas” in 1993.
