Question: What European-born immigrant played the flute at the Battle of San Jacinto?

Answer: Frederick Lemský. According to different sources, he was born in Poland, Bohemia, or Germany. He moved to Texas in February 1936 and enlisted in the army the following month. He is said to have played Come to the Bower at the Battle of San Jacinto. After Texas gained its independence, he worked as a flute instructor, helped organize the German Union of Texas, and employed a crew to dig the Brazos and San Luis Canals.
