Question: Where is the only lift bridge in Texas?
Answer: Rio Hondo. The Arroyo Colorado Lift Bridge was built in 1953 to provide a direct route from the town to neighboring Harlingen via FM 106. The two-lane bridge can be raised to allow barges access to the inland port about 2.5 miles south of the crossing. It received a historic marker in 2020 and has been incorporated into Rio Hondo’s official logo.
