Answer: Ross Perot. In 1984, his foundation purchased one of four copies of the 1297 draft of the historic document from a British family that had owned it for more than 500 years. He lent it to the National Archives, but he sold it in 2007 to raise money for Iraqi war veterans’ medical expenses. It was purchased for over $21 million by businessman and philanthropist David Rubenstein, who agreed to keep it at the National Archives.
