Question: Where in Texas can you see the world’s second-longest burning light bulb?
Answer: At the Stockyards Museum in Fort Worth. The carbon filament light bulb manufactured by the Shelby Electric Company was installed at the Byers Opera House in Fort Worth on Sept. 21, 1908. The opera house later became the Palace Theater, and the light bulb was salvaged when the theater was demolished in 1977.
In 1991, the light bulb was donated to the Stockyards Museum, where it was displayed in a glass case and provided its own power supply. It was once thought to be the world’s oldest continuously operating light bulb, but the Centennial Light in Livermore, California, claimed that title.
