Article Icon 1 New Data Shows Illegal Migrants Avoiding Texas

Border Patrol encounters with illegal immigrants in Texas were down during the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

That change has coincided with an increase in encounters elsewhere along the border. Last year, 59% of illegal immigrant encounters occurred in Texas, while that figure has dropped to 43% this year.

Gov. Greg Abbott has credited Operation Lone Star for the drop in illegal border crossings. Since March 2021, the state has deployed thousands of National Guard troops to deter illegal entry and prosecute border-related crimes, spending $11 billion on the effort.

Article Icon 1 State Leads Nation in Job Growth

New data shows that Texas leads the nation in annual job growth, with more jobs added in the last year than any other state.

Research from the U.S. Department of Labor and Texas Workforce Commission confirmed that the state added over 19,100 jobs in March, securing a record-high total of over 14 million.

The state also led the nation in total nonfarm employment, which increased by 270,700 jobs from March 2023 to March 2024.

Article Icon 1 Longest Game in Texas History

A West Texas baseball game made history this weekend by lasting 25.5 hours over two days in a 23-inning contest—the longest in the state’s history.

The two-day epic between the Midland Bulldogs and the Odessa Bronchos became U.S. history’s third-longest high school baseball game. It began at 4:30 p.m. Friday, was called after 14 innings, and continued another nine innings the next day.

The Bulldogs finally won 4-3 after Midland scored what turned out to be the game-winning run on a squeeze bunt in the top of the 23rd inning. You can see the final out in the bottom of the 23rd here.
