School Personnel Accused of Planting Vape Pen on Students

Former Corpus Christi ISD police officer Andrew Gonzalez and Amanda Lee Corona, a former middle school assistant principal, have been arrested for allegedly framing students by planting a THC-filled vape pen among their belongings.

In March of last year, after a vape pen was found behind a filing cabinet during a routine backpack search, Gonzalez and Corona allegedly conspired to place the pen in a student’s backpack, according to an audio recording obtained from a student’s cell phone.

The same vape pen was found in another student’s binder. Both students said the vape pen belonged to a third student. All three students were disciplined.

“I’m mad, you know, mad that you did this to my son. You ruined the trust that I had for the teachers, for the principals, for the vice principals,” said the mother of one of the students.

Thieves Steal $400K of Legos

A two-year Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigation unraveled an organized retail theft ring involving at least 10 people operating across four states. So far, two suspects—Brian Keith Fleming, 33, and Ladarion Dontre Anderson, 33, both of Lancaster—have been arrested.

The scheme involved stealing Lego sets from Walmart and Target stores and reselling them online through platforms like Amazon and eBay. The thieves provided altered receipts for an equal number of lower-priced items if questioned by store employees.

Investigators working with the retailers provided invoices showing that over 500 Lego sets worth $400,000 had been stolen since December 2021.

Fleming was booked into the Smith County Jail on Dec. 6, and Anderson is detained at the Tarrant County Corrections Center. The bond for each suspect has been set at $1.1 million.

Austin, Houston Most Fun Cities in Texas

Austin and Houston have been named among the top 10 “Most Fun Cities in America,” according to WalletHub. The study analyzed 182 cities across 65 key metrics, including options for entertainment, recreation, nightlife, and parties.

Austin ranked sixth overall, with a weighted score of 54.33 (out of 100), while Houston’s score of 51.64 ranked ninth. Las Vegas, Orlando, and Miami earned the top three spots.

Other Texas cities receiving a better-than-average ranking include San Antonio (25th), Dallas (31st), El Paso (53rd), and Fort Worth (55th).
